Hey, all! Kelly here (a.k.a. Aurora Reese). Trying out this whole blog thing for the first time in at least a decade. The last time I kept a blog and updated it regularly – and I mean often – was in college, and that was a long, long time ago, haha.
So, I guess I should start with a background, eh? I’ve been writing fiction for myself in earnest since high school, really diving into it in college when I discovered all the fanfiction sites. For a hot minute, I considered going into acting, but the stage fright I had was insurmountable, and I always preferred the behind-the-scenes aspect of things more. Didn’t know if I was going to try playwrighting, screenwriting, or being an author, but it was always a dream.
My college years did not prepare me for a career (to the disappointment of my parents, I’m sure), so I’ve worked retail and customer service-related jobs since then, never making much money. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve been incredibly lucky in that my parents could afford to keep me home until I moved in with my boyfriend (now husband), and yes, I did pay them rent as well. But during that time, I kept writing. I cannot tell you how many dozens of notebooks I have with snippets of ideas and full pages and pages of stories in them.
One of my best friends, P. (I don’t know if she wants me to mention her by name yet), was a writing buddy of mine. We would meet at diners and talk and laugh for hours about everything, and spent so much time writing and reviewing each others’ work. I even helped her with a play that she was able to have actors read for an audience. And let me tell you, sitting in that audience and listening to them react just how we wanted to certain pivotal moments we’d worked so hard on was one of the greatest experiences of my life.
Years later, I met Michelle through a mutual friend. I casually mentioned something I’d read – an internet post of an idea regarding the potential origin of a common mythical creature – and how it inspired an idea of my own. Suddenly, she and I had come up with a full story outline, one more fully realized than anything I had ever attempted in the past, and something that I think could eventually become a very entertaining book series.
Over the course of what feels like a thousand text messages over one weekend, and beyond that, we became fast friends who thrive on the ideas, interpretations, and interests we both share. She encouraged me to delve into writing romance novels, helped me refine them for publishing, and is the person I trust most when trying to perfect plots and scenes in both the spicy and non-spicy fiction I work on. We created our podcast together, and while it’s been on an indefinite hiatus, we do plan on starting it back up soon.
All this is to say: This site and all the projects encompassed on it are the product of our like minds finding inspiration, encouragement, and the ability to fully realize our dreams with the other. We hope you at least explore what we have to offer, even if it’s not your cup of tea. Chances are, you might know someone who would be interested in our projects, and you should definitely tell them about us.
Oh, and I promise my future posts won’t be this crazy long, and they probably won’t even be that frequent. Haha.
