For those who may not know, there’s an event called National Novel Writing Month (or NaNoWriMo – NaNo for short) that happens in November. Writers all over the globe try to write every day to reach the goal of 50,000 words, which is the low average word count of a novel. As years went by and the popularity of the event grew, it naturally expanded. Now, you can set your own goal if you think you can’t make the traditional goal of 50k, or if you think you want to push yourself to beat that goal.
Nowadays, it appears NaNo has evolved, helping spread literacy programs and encouraging young writers, and spread to more than one month. As far as I can tell, any month that only has 30 days in it (that’s April, June, September, and November for those following along) can be a NaNo month, though November is still the main one. The beauty of NaNo is that you can write whatever you want, poems, novels, scripts, journals, as long as you write. If you hit 50k words (or whatever your goal is for the 30 days), you win. And though there’s no real prize, you still achieved something amazing.
Anyway, all of this was to say that I’m thinking of participating in Camp NaNo, which begins on April 1st, just a couple days away. I haven’t participated in NaNoWriMo outside of November, but it does tend to keep me focused and driven to write. And since my motivation tends to lack outside of a NaNo event, maybe I can trick myself into finishing these few spicy books so I can publish them and concentrate on the KAC novels that have been percolating for a year.
But of course, I have 2 new GPA novellas that came to mind in the past week that will probably occupy my time. *sigh* I really do wish my brain would stop generating brand new stories and just work on perfecting what I’ve already got in the works.
